Meditation and Mindfulness is about developing a state of awareness so that you can stay in the moment. If you are constantly thinking (or worrying) about the past or thinking (or worrying) about the future, then you are not in the moment but just living in a state of past /future thoughts.
Meditation is used by many to pursue a holistic or spiritual way of life, but the reality is that it is one of the most practical tools you can use to help you reduce stress. By practicing meditation, you will find that you start to come into balance, physically, emotionally and mentally.
These classes will focus on the Buddhist Fundamentals of Mindfulness, the Four Noble Truths, guided meditation and breath work. We will also discuss different meditation postures and how to set up a practice at home and within daily life.
A Cup of Tea
Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to enquire about Zen.
Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor’s cup full, and then kept on pouring.
The professor watched the overflow until he could no longer restrain himself. “It is overfull. No more will go in!”
“Like this cup, “ Nan-in said, “you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?”
No Questions:
Upon meeting a Zen master at a social event, a psychiatrist decided to ask him a question that had been on his mind. “Exactly how do you help people?” He enquired.
“I get them to where they can’t ask any more questions,” the master answered.
